NOTTINGHAM WATERSIDE SCHEME SET TO STARTFebruary will see the start of a £45m development alongside the Nottingham Canal close to the city centre and which is expected to be completed early in 2009.The develpment is near to the existing Broadmarsh shopping centre - itself due to be doubled in size by 2011 - and the Midland Railway Station, which is seen as a major transport centre, which will interlink trains, trams and buses and provide a new connection to the Channel Tunnel. New plans envisage a total of 240 apartments, approximately 55,000 sq.ft. of office and restaurant space and a public pathway, including a bridge to link the canal's south bank with the new development. Excellence in Urban Regeneration When complete the development will comprise studios, one and two bedroom luxury apartments and penthouses and three bedroom duplexes, some having spectular views of this city's fame castle. Robin Hood, the wicked Sheriff, Roger Mortimer and all that agical mythological and heart-stopping historical stuff... The regeneration project will also provide 100 'affordable homes' which have been sold to Spirita and which will be made available for rent and purchase through the homebuy shared ownership scheme. The developer is Nottingham-based Southreef Properties Limited and the construction will be carried out by the major city-based construction company, Thomas Fish and Sons. Southreef's sales and marketing director, Andrea Richardson, said "Our aim is to produce something of a very high standard. We are aware that management is a key issue and we are therefore providing a concierge service with 24-hour security; in my experience management is a key issue to ensure sustainable success." The Canal Street site runs from the Job Centre to Enviroenergy's heat station on London Road and is contained within the Nottingham City Council's designated 38 hectare Southside development area. |
