TOWER CRANE

CALLING ALL TOWER CRANE FANS!

Have you ever wondered how tower cranes are erected? If so, now’s your chance to see the next big crane being assembled at the new mixed use development – known as Southreef – on Canal Street, Nottingham.

The site is located on Canal Street adjacent to the Nottingham Canal, with buildings to both the west and east, making the erection of the crane a very challenging procedure, especially when the crane will be put in place with the help of another crane already on-site.

The crane being erected is a saddle crane that, once installed, will reach a height of 145 ft, the length of the jib is 145 ft and it will have a carrying capacity between 7.3 ton and 16 ton.

Andrea Richardson, Sales and Marketing Director of Southreef Properties Limited said “When the first crane was installed several people later mentioned that they would like to have seen it being erected, so this time we decided to give people the opportunity to see how it’s done!”

The date for your diary is Tuesday, 2 October 2007. The assembly will commence at around 7 a.m. and the installation is likely to take most of the day; it is anticipated that the jib will be placed between 3 and 4 p.m.

A procedure like this is always subject to weather conditions – so keep your fingers crossed that the weather is kind!
